Living in Japan as a foreigner pitted two opposing sensations against each other. Locked in a endless battle, isolation and interconnectedness were equally matched. It was freeing, in many ways, to know that there was little expectation to fit in, but this was constantly balanced out by knowing that there was no changing that, ever.
