In the autumn of 2024 I began a new foray into three dimensional art. This has been a wholly rewarding experience and allowed me to search for new ways to examine the world around, before and ahead of me. It has been wildly interesting and fun to begin work in a new fashion.
Works In order:
Dundee:
Envisioned as the missing link between dinosaurs and avians, this creature also includes characteristics of cicadas, and snails. A sort of hodgepodge of evolutionary traits.
Giving Up The Ghost:
Created with the ever looming threat of nuclear annihilation in mind.
Maleficent:
Designed around the feeling of an out of control launch, this non-representational piece grew into a stand-in for the character Malecifent from Sleeping Beauty. Both majestic and terrible, it represents the lust for control and power over the free world.
Pre-Columbian Killdozer:
This soapstone carving is the result of a technical exercise I imposed to try to find where I was at with my ability to create shapes and edges in a purely reductive process. In doing so I aimed to blend the iconography of a bulldozer with that of a pre-Columbian Meso-American style temple. It represents the destruction of the history and cultures of the Americas by the Spanish conquests.
